Before Your First Visit
Upon making an appointment, you will be provided with some paperwork to complete. Please complete this before your session, or bring it with you to your appointment.
If you have a referral from your GP, please email it to us, or bring it with you to your appointment. If you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, you will need to have a referral from your GP to access this. Please read the Fees & Rebates page for more information.
Initial Consultation
The first session typically involves getting to know you, as well as introducing the psychologist and outlining key policies and procedures, including confidentiality and privacy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process, and for your psychologist to answer these and provide information about how therapy works.
Your psychologist will conduct a psychological assessment, which involves talking about:
- The reason for your visit
- Your current life situation
- Difficulties and any related factors and history
This is important to enable your psychologist to work with you to create the most effective treatment plan for your personal situation. Typically, in the first session your psychologist will also work with you to create goals for therapy.
Subsequent Consultations
Following the psychological assessment, your psychologist will be able to decide which therapeutic approach is most suitable for you.
Your psychologist will work with you to devise a plan that best meets your needs and will help you to achieve your goals for therapy.
